Student Council


Student Council is an organization of students who are committed to promoting positive student attitudes and effective representation of the International Academy of Macomb student body through leadership and student-led school activities.

Dance Information

The IAM holds two annual dances; Homecoming and the Winter Dance.  

Admission per guest: $10* and 2 canned good items. Canned goods are collected at lunch Monday-Wednesday the week of the dance.The canned good items are donated to Hope Center Macomb or Gleaners Macomb. The purpose of the canned good collection is to take the opportunity to give to those in need in our community. Students who do not meet the deadline will have two options: 1- not attend the dance. 2- submit their items late with a one page essay (students must see Ms. Rojeski for the essay prompt.) 

IAM students are allowed to bring one (1) non-IAM guest. IAM students are responsible for submitting a completed Dance Guest Form. The form must be turned in to Ms. Rojeski no later than the Friday before the week of the dance (8 days prior to the dance). The IAM reserves the right to deny entry. 

Dances are held in the IAM cafeteria from 7pm-10pm.Students should enter the doors near room 17 (Amthor) off of the Romeo Plank entrance. Doors close at 7:30pm. Students who arrive after 7:30pm will not be allowed to enter the dance. Once inside, students may not leave until 9:30pm.

The dances are semi-formal/formal. In the past, student attire at IAM Homecoming dances has primarily consisted of casual suits, button-down shirts and ties, and cocktail dresses. Students do not typically wear tuxedos or princess style ball gowns. 

*Because student council purchases items for the dances based on ticket sales, there are no refunds

Membership

Student council members in grades 10-12 are elected by their respective class in May/June for the following school year.  Freshmen elections are held in September of the new school year.

 Any freshmen interested in being a member of student council must meet the expectations of a student council member including

  • attending and participating at all meetings 
  • attending and participating at all student council functions (dances, dance set-up, Winter Olympics, Gleaners food bank, etc.)
  • maintain good academic and personal conduct

Read this info and decide whether student council is right for you.  

Monday, August 29 - Thursday, August 31: Pick up Election Form from outside of room 5.

Tuesday, September 6: Attend candidate meeting and turn in election form in room 5 at 2:35.

Thursday, September 7:  Turn in poster by end of school day in room 5.  

Monday, September 11: Hang poster in hall between rooms 16 and 17. 

Thursday, September 14: After morning announcements, all freshmen go to the cafeteria to listen to speeches. Candidates give a one minute (or less) speech. Freshmen vote for candidates during lunches. 

Friday, September 15: Winners announced at the end of the day over PA.
